Molokai 2 Oahu - Fantasy Sup Preview

Dear Fantasy Suppers,

The epic downwind race Molokai-2-Oahu is going to happen this Sunday, July 28. The big news we got from is that the defending champion and four-time winner Travis Grant has withdrawn from this year’s race through injury.

Travis is not the only past winner of the famous M2O who is going to miss the race this year. The recent champions Connor Baxter (2011, 2012, 2014) and Kai Lenny (2016) won’t compete. Connor’s commitment at the Pan-American Games, while Kai will be defending his Molokai foil title. But foil division will not be considered on our Fantasy Sup ranking, so if you want to climb up the Leaderboard forget to draft up Kai in your Team.

A new champion will be decreed this year. The eyes are on the Aussie powerhouse Michael Booth and last year’s third-place finisher James Casey

James will paddle not only for the title but also for a good cause. As he posted on his social network, his father is fighting against cancer and James will cross the Ka’iwi Channel to raise $100 for each kilometer he’ll paddle during the 50km for a total of $5200 to donate to cancer-fighting. You can help him and donate whatever you feel is the right amount for you.

Also the Japan warrior Kenny Kaneko will be a good contender for the podium. The same if the 2018 Paddle League champ Lincoln Dews – not mentioned on the official start list – will be a last-minute entry. In the men’s 14′ stock class all sights on Josh Riccio and Mo Freitas. Probably they won’t reach the overall podium but they can score good points for your Fantasy Sup Team.

In the women’s field the challenge for the win will be between three-time champion Sonni Honscheid (2014-2016) and defending champ and two-time winner Terrene Black (2013, 2018).

Check the official start list to look who is on the start line, but remember: only Unlimited and 14’ stock class will earn points for your Fantasy Sup Team.
